Stephen Russell

Commercial Business Executive

Stephen has more than 21 years’ experience in the minerals, metals, inspection, sampling and assaying business. After working for 15 years at Alex Stewart Assayers, rising from junior to operations management, he became the company’s Commercial and Marketing Manager. More recently, Stephen was promoted to Group Commercial Executive and he has enjoyed great success in developing a wide range of new business opportunities within the metals and minerals sector. He regularly attends major conferences such as CESCO, LME and PDAC, while travelling extensively to serve the global mining, trading and refining market sector.

Desmond McMillan MSc, GRSC, BSc

Chief Chemist

Des started his career in 1985 as a junior laboratory assistant at Bootle Analytical Labs, which specialises in general analytical services. He moved to Central Edible Oils in 1988 as an oil quality control analyst, before joining Inspectorate Environmental in 1991 to specialise in environmental analysis. Des joined us in 1994 as an analytical chemist and became Chief Chemist of Alex Stewart Agriculture in 2004. He has been Chief Chemist of Alex Stewart International’s HQ laboratories since 2007 and our Quality Manager since 2011. Des also played a key role in designing two modern laboratories for our Group.

Rob Smith

Precious Metals Business Executive

Rob works as Business Development Executive within our metals and minerals commercial team and is responsible for global sales and business development for the Alex Stewart International Group. Rob primarily focuses on our inspection and analysis business for precious metals and related products, including high-grade bullion, dore, concentrates, PGMs, catalysts and PM-bearing wastes/scraps. Rob is also involved in business development and sales for other areas of our inspection and analysis business, including base metals and minor metals. Rob travels extensively and represents us at metals and minerals conferences and events around the world. Before joining us in 2017, Rob worked for 10 years as a commodities research analyst, covering the base metals and precious metals markets.

Franz Apablaza

Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Business Executive

Franz joined Alex Stewart International in 2014 to manage our metals and minerals inspection and analysis services in Chile, while coordinating with neighbouring country offices in Latin America. Franz has extensive experience in the inspection and sampling of metals, minerals, oil and gas. As country manager of Alex Stewart International in Chile, Franz and his team can provide inspection coverage for both international and domestic clients throughout Latin America and the rest of the world.

Kushal Roy

Solid Fuels Business Executive

Kushal is a Class I Marine Engineer with nine years’ sea service. He is a fully qualified independent inspector/surveyor and has almost 25 years’ experience, of which the past 20 years have been with Alex Stewart International in independent inspection, sampling and testing of various commodities, particularly solid fuels such as coal and coke, for which he has set up an integrated inspection and testing service in India.

Levent Delibas

Steel Scrap and Steel Products Business Director

Levant graduated in 1984 with a computer sciences degree from Bosphorus University (Istanbul). In 1986, he started his inspection career as a surveyor at Vitsan Gözetim A.S (Inspectorate). Over the course of seven successful years, he advanced to Assistant General Manager. In 1993 he joined and built Alex Stewart Uluslararası Gözetim A.Ş. His great experience covers metals, minerals, agriculture, liquid cargoes, marine surveys and with more than 22 years knowledge, he also specialises in steel scrap inspections. This is one of the key reasons that Alex Stewart International is the preferred inspection company in Turkey.

Marcelo Tejada

Geochemical Business Executive

Marcelo joined us in 2002 and has been involved in all management and business development aspects of the geochemical activities at Alex Stewart Argentina and South America, including planning and designing state-of-the-art geochemical, environmental and sample preparation laboratories operating to ISO standards in Mendoza, Perito Moreno and Puerto San Julian. Marcelo recently successfully completed his business management certificate at Aden Business School, USA. He is a loyal fan of Racing Club of Buenos Aires, former World Club Champions.

Gonzalo Paredes

Metallurgy and Mining Business Executive

Gonzalo is a metallurgical engineering graduate of the University of Lima who has a wide range of experience in metallurgy and mining processes. He joined Alex Stewart Assayers del Peru in 2002 and oversees inspections and sampling operations of Peruvian zinc, lead and precious metal concentrate exports, while helping to grow our mining and metallurgical business in Peru.

Glenn Forbes

Inspections Business Executive

Glenn has 35 years’ industry experience, having joined Alex Stewart International in 1997. Originally, he was a cargo superintendent for dry and oil cargoes, before taking over as Agricultural Manager for Alex Stewart Agriculture. Glenn has been heavily involved in technical inspection assignments, including training, development and implementation programmes in Argentina, Brazil, Cambodia, Chile, Kazakhstan, Korea and the Philippines on major projects and training staff in all aspects of inspections. Glenn is fully qualified in draft surveys, seed sampling, pest detection and agriculture and regularly participates in GAFTA, FOSFA and TIC committees, while lecturing on their international training courses.

Wilson Faifer

Agri Business Executive

Wilson is an agricultural engineer with an MBA from the University of São Paulo in Brazil. Wilson was with Ciba Geigy for three years, having also worked for 12 years with DuPont Chemicals, three years in Trading Company and has been with us now for more than 25 years. Wilson specialises in agriculture products, traceability, GMO and complex negotiations with investors (banks, funds), clients and CMA companies.

Krishnan Vadivelu

Oil Products Business Executive

Krishnan has more than 35 years’ surveying industry experience with extensive training in all aspects. He is a certified and qualified palm oil and agri surveyor by MPOB, FOSFA, GAFTA, and has various marine course certificates (eg pipeline coating, IOPP-oil pollution, finance). He has worked for Alex Stewart Malaysia for more than five years as General Manager and Director. Krishnan is a former deputy GM of the BSI Inspectorate and has specialist experience in handling and managing governmental Customs contracts and CMAs for Petronas (MITCO) and Maybank.

Alexey Moshnyanskiy

European Business Executive

Alexey has diplomas in marine engineering and economy awarded by Odesa National Marine University. He has worked in inspection services in Ukraine since 1997 and joined the Alex Stewart International in 2002. He has written two manuals and many articles on cargo surveys. He lectures on cargo surveys on postgraduate courses at Odesa National Marine University. Alexey has wide ranging experience in arranging and coordinating inspections of metals and minerals, grains, oils, oilseeds, fertilisers, and other soft commodities

Joar Oygard

Environmental Services Business Executive

Joar has worked for Alex Stewart Environmental Services since 2001 and has been heavily involved in all of our laboratory development and new environmental projects. Our environmental laboratories work to ISO standards and report organic and non-organic parameters to ppm and ppb levels. Types of analysis include waters and bacteria in water, pollutants, heavy metals, anions, seawater; soils and sewage treatment for heavy industry; environmentally sensitive mining projects, geological research and development and soil clean-up projects.
